Lawrence Smith is a producer, actor, and President & CEO of Mad Riot Entertainment. In 2014, he co-founded Mad Riot with acclaimed producer Mark Canton ("300", "300: Rise of An Empire", "Den of Thieves" and the STARZ series “Power"). Lawrence was born September 9, 1969, in Brooklyn, NY and raised on the North Shore of Long Island. With over 20 years of Wall Street experience, Lawrence transitioned into the entertainment industry by consulting on Wall Street-themed major studio films. After twenty years on Wall Street, he progressed into the hedge fund sector raising capital for a private fund he had founded. Lawrence managed the Fund’s capital and sought after new investment opportunities. Simultaneously, he followed his original passion for entertainment and seized the moment at a Mets game by pitching his abilities to film Director, Oliver Stone. The chance meeting resulted in the opportunity to be the trading technology consultant for Stone’s movie, “Wall Street II: Money Never Sleeps.” Mr. Stone also gave Lawrence a small role in the film which allowed him to experience all aspects of film production. Lawrence used this entertainment gateway to pursue further his desire to be part of the entertainment industry. He continued acting and appeared in “The Wolf of Wall Street,” “Noah,” “The Comedian,” and several other large-scale studio movies. He’s been directed by Daren Aronofsky, Taylor Hackford, and Martin Scorsese amongst other notables. Lawrence performed with Michael Douglas, Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, Danny DeVito, Jennifer Aniston, Russel Crowe and many others. His latest acting work is his second Martin Scorsese film, “The Irishman,” starring Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, and Joe Pesci. He decided to combine his Wall Street background with his creativity and co-founded a film production company in 2014 with producer, Mark Canton. He raised capital from high net worth individuals and corporations and formed Mad Riot Entertainment. Lawrence began producing films and funding the productions as executive producer and consulting producer. He has been involved in four major motion pictures, three of which have been Official Selections at the prestigious Sundance Film Festival in 2017, 2018 and the Toronto International Film Festival in 2016. Lawrence participates in most facets of the development phase through the theatrical release. He currently has four new film projects in development. Lawrence is a member of the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists. He holds a seat on the board of the Gold Coast International Film Festival, and he served on the SAG Awards Nomination Committee.
